Nissan is famous for innovations in the auto manufacturing markets. Recently, there has been news about the carmaker experimenting with a new kind of car that cleans itself. This self-cleaning car sports a completely revolutionary kind of pain that is resistant to both oil and water, and therefore does not need to be cleaned all too often. In fact, you can just take it out for a spin, have a great ride, and then put it away in your garage, without having to wash it. There is no official news about what stage of design and development the car has reached, but if Nissan is able to achieve what it set out to do, it may mean the end of the road for car washes and car washing products.

The Super Paint that Cleans Itself

No the car does not come with robot hands that would wash it when it is dirty. It comes with a special paint that is nothing short of super hydrophobic paint. This paint keeps dry at all times and therefore does not allow any water, oil, dirt or grime to stick on the body of the car, therefore making it completely self cleaning. This specially formulated paint is a scientific breakthrough that can be used in a lot of things other than cars, and may turn out to be very useful to various appliance-making industries as well. This special paint is being designed by UltraTech International.

The Science behind the Protective Paint

This specially designed paint is truly a marvel. It creates a protective layer of air between itself and the environment around it. This prevents water or road spray from staying on the car’s paint, therefore avoiding the creation of any dirty marks on the paint of the car. This paint is currently in the test phase, and is being tested on the Nissan Note. Sources within the company say that the paint has been responding well. They have tested it against a number of natural weather conditions, including frost, snow, hail, and sleet. The paint has been able to perform well even in standing water. So come hail, rain and snow, your car will continue to shine and look as new as the day you bought it from a showroom.

What Does the Future Hold?

The paint, developed by UltraTech International, is being tested in a technical center in Europe. The testing will continue well into the next few months and it may be a full year before Nissan is able to release the paint into its market. As of now, Nissan has absolutely no plans to offer this self-cleaning paint as a standard feature. In fact, the company is planning to launch it as an aftermarket product that would be available with Nissan car dealers and car product companies. In such a case, you will be able to pay extra to have any car covered with this paint and made into a self-cleaning car. Whether this effectively puts a dent into the car washing and cleaning industry for good is anyone’s guess.
